Your New Benefits Are Here! So What’s Next?

Now that you have your new benefits in place, what steps can you take to make sure you are getting the most out of them? Open Enrollment is the perfect opportunity to review your health plan, update any necessary information, and take action to make sure your benefits are being used to their fullest potential.

1. Be on the Lookout for New ID Cards and Information Packets:

Look for new identification cards and informational packets from your insurance carrier if you changed your plan or your employer changed providers. You should be able to receive your new ID card within a few weeks, although you can get a temporary one online if you need proof of insurance sooner. The packets sent out by your insurance carrier will include information about your plan. In addition to the ID card, insurance carriers often send out information packets which include the details of your plan.

2. Download Mobile Apps and Create Your Online User Accounts

By creating a member account with each of your carriers, you can save time when searching for information about your coverage and easily find innetwork care providers. Additionally, many carriers offer mobile apps that provide quick access to ID cards, coverage details, and contact information.

3. Explore Your Benefits

The best way to familiarize yourself with your benefits is by using them! Take a look at what types of care are covered and schedule the necessary appointments. For example, you may want to consider having an annual wellness exam, cancer screening, dental cleaning, or vision exam done. It is important to remember that taking good care of your health is an important part of living a healthy life.

4. Double-Check Your First Paystub

Once your benefits become active, doublecheck the amount taken out of your first paycheck for your insurance. If it is incorrect, don‘t hesitate to reach out to Human Resources so that it can be resolved.

5. Track Your Medical Expenses

Keeping track of your medical expenses is important, regardless of whether you use a Health Savings Account or a Flexible Spending Account, or pay for medical care outofpocket. By doing this, you will be able to understand the amount of money you are spending for your care and you can use the information when it‘s time for Open Enrollment to choose a plan that is best for you.

It is time to take action and take advantage of your new benefits. Make sure to become familiar with them, utilize any wellness programs available, and stay informed of any changes throughout the year. Doing so will help you make the most out of your coverage and lead a healthier lifestyle.
